Australia is in the grips of some terrible flooding right now, both in Brisbane and Queensland. My knowledge of Australian geography is lamentably lacking, but I am thinking of my Australian flisties and praying for your safety and the safety of your loved ones.

I've been in a 100-year flood before and have vivid memories of snakes floating in from the desert and people navigating to work on inflatable inner tubes. Flash floods are a scary fact of life if you live in a desert area.

I'm just watching the news report on tv now and it's heartbreaking. I have an aunt and cousins in Brisbane; I'm hoping they are okay.

Thanks hon. We're well south of where all this is happening, but I have relatives in Brisbane. It's quite astounding how widespread this flood is; 75% of the state is affected. An area about the size of Texas and California. I woke to the news that the number of people missing, that was listed as 72 yesterday morning, went down to 59 last night, has risen to 90. This is mainly form the inland tsunami that just swept through Toowoomba and towns nearby. Terrifying footage is around. Floods won't peak for another 12 hours.

Oh, it's wonderful to know that you are safe and dry. I hope that the expected flooding wasn't as bad as predicted.

I'm in Brisbane but luckily our house is high and dry. Now looking to see who we can help, there's a Red Cross volunteer line being set up.
