I am so grateful not only for my "real" mom, the thought of whom brings both love and pain, but the other mother figures in my life, especially my mother-in-law Mary Ann and my surrogate sponsor mom Miriam. Mothering is a great gift to give and receive - whether or not you have actually given birth.
