An Open Letter
Mar. 8th, 2009 09:08 pmDear Author I Friended Because I Love Your WIP,
Apparently, the only other thing you post are rants about the evils of Republicans. After the first one I read, I admit to skipping them because they are filled with outrage and vitriole. Plus, back in the day before I became a committed moderate, I was a Republican. Yes, you read that correctly. And it gets worse! My ENTIRE family - discounting some Libertarian leanings - are Republicans. Your rants about the idiocy of right-wing talk show hosts and elitism and whatnot sound awfully familiar to me. Why? Because I hear them from certain uncharitable family members about the left. You see, both sides try to stir up hatred and outrage and general discontent among the public to further their own agendas. In fact, many people actually make their living from stirring up such feelings. On the right these people would be: Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity. Michael Moore is a prime example of this type of individual who is on the left. There are many others. They are manipulating your emotions to such a degree that I fear for your health and general wellbeing.
Honestly, if you are getting that worked up about stuff, maybe you should consider not listening to/reading/watching the individuals who stir up such unhappiness in you.
Your Friend,
Twasadark, who believes that you should be able to post whatever you want in your journal but please remember that lots of people of differing beliefs read it.
PS - BIG BIG kudos to those of you on my flist who I have respectfully disagreed with who welcome debate without descending into namecalling and hysteria. THANK YOU.

Date: 2009-03-09 05:29 am (UTC)That's what the back button is for.
When it comes to LJ I believe in the beauty of the cut (and warning ppl in the cut text, and in the tags).
Some times I don't use it, if it's something I want people to read (for their own good, not cuz I'm being a bitch lol).
And that way your flist can decide for themselves if they want to be subjected to the text behind the cut.

Date: 2009-03-09 05:47 am (UTC)Hey, I watched the first eppy of Being Human. I liked it, although I was a little confused about how the girl came to be solid, lol. I really like her though - very sweet and a sympathetic character. I may have to watch more eppies ... :-)

Date: 2009-03-09 12:54 pm (UTC)Everyone has their own opinion, which I fully understand & they are certainly welcome to it, but yeah. I get what you're saying. IMHO that's where lj cuts are gettin' the big money for.
One time a person friended me because of our common interest in Supernatural & I eventually friended her back, but then she started posting a lot more often. All her posts became extremely lengthy & not behind a cut & they partially pretty much said this is what you should be thinking too nature. I ended up having to defriend her. She defriended me back. Ah well.

Date: 2009-03-09 02:47 pm (UTC)Also, I have my fingers crossed that the author will begin to focus less on political rants and more on finishing that WIP - which is amazing regardless of your political party affiliation.

Date: 2009-03-09 04:44 pm (UTC)Seriously, ditto on everything, including 'used to be Republican before I became a moderate' and 'my entire family is Republican'. Sometimes I can't win for losing — half the people in my extended family think I'm evil because I'm not right-wing enough, and then I go on my flist and realize I'm clearly evil because I'm not left-wing enough. Reading this made me SO HAPPY OMG.

Date: 2009-03-10 02:14 am (UTC)I try to do the same thing. This person posts on politics all the time, making that difficult. Sigh.
LOL about asshats. That's a good word for politicians!!

Date: 2009-03-10 02:17 am (UTC)I SO know what you mean!! When I teach my history classes I really try to help people look at the information they read and hear and see critically just for this reason.
And don't worry, we can wear the rose colored glasses together! We'll make a style of it. :-)
