I think I overloaded on Wincest reading lately, because I’ve really been craving some simple sweet gen fics. Here are some I especially enjoyed.
Everything by moosesal. This future fic is unique, lovely, sad and sweet all at once. Dean comes to live with Sam and his three kids after Sam’s wife dies.
When Siblings eAttack by gekizetsu. This is a short one. The characterization is spot on and the story will give you a quick laugh and a warm feeling. Takes place when Sam is at Stanford.
Looking for What You Knew by brynnmck. This is the kind of story that delivers pure, unadulterated brotherly-ness: bitching, worrying, sniping, and loving. Tag for “Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things.”
Messing Around with Slim by kroki-refur. Original, chilling, and just plain brilliant. A pool game turns unexpected.
Mustard Seed by kimonkey7. Oh ….! Faith and hope and pain. And Sammy making man-food. Just a lovely fic that will warm the cockles of your heart.
dys.lex.i.a by namegoeshere. I think you might have to friend the author to look at this one, but it’s well worth the effort. I love love love this story, and I’m not exactly sure why. Sure, it’s touching, sweet, and earnest, but it’s also very … Dean. 3500 words.
Untitled by stele3. Dean dies for the third time and Sam brings him back. Dean is less than thrilled with this turn of events. If you like angst, soul-searching, and brotherly bonding, this is the fic for you. Both Sam and Dean are hurting, and Sam in particular has some affecting epiphanies. I think the characterization of Dean is a little off, but overall this is just a wonderful read.
One Father’s Sons by stele3. This is a novel, really. A rip-roaring adventure that posits a different 2nd season than we have. Summary: AU for season two. After the car crash, Sam and Dean struggle to deal with their father's death, and make a startling discovery: they have a younger brother, Reese, who's got his own demonic issues. The first few chapters, in particular, are mind-blowingly excellent.
Shotgun by namegoeshere. Again, you may have to friend the author to get to this one. When I first read this fic I could *not* get it out of my head for days. It’s so affectingly intimate (in a gen way, I promise!) that it actually got me started reading Wincest, which I formally thought was sick. And okay, I still think it’s a little sick (not that such thinking has stopped me!!) but there are some awesome awesome writers out there that do it and hey, a good writer can make anything enjoyable, right? Anyhow, this fic is about the boys just being together, relaxing in a lazy, easy, sweet way.
Providence by zionsstarfish. I love this author so much. This fic is a total delight, although it’s not funny in the least. It takes place just after S1, and finds Sam being taken to hell by Meg. Dean’s determination and loyalty and faithfulness are addictive. And there’s hugging. Fabulous ending.
Red Beans and Rice by janissa11 (Emily Brunson). Oh oh oh! This is so damn good! Pre-series, featuring the boys growing up, and Dean showing his love, care and responsibility as he tries to keep his family together through the meals he prepares. Its sequel is just as good: Lasagna. This one is filled with hurt, grief, and regret. Made me frickin’ cry, but in a good way.
A New Leaf by twasadark. I’m doing the self-pimping thang here because I’m a review-whore. So if you read pleeeeeeeeeeease review. Anyhow, here’s the summary: Dean decides to, well, turn over a new leaf and live the time he has left to him differently. Through the end of S2. It was inspired, I suppose, by every Supernatural fic I’ve read and enjoyed. My attempt at schmoop.
