Fic Recs: Gen Gen and Some More Gen

I looked back through my posts and it's been FOREVER since I've recc'd some Gen stories. Bad me! BAAAAAAAAD. Here's a gob to make up for that:

Words Like Violence by bellatemple  (Sam/Jess, Dean; rated teen) Summary: Jess thought, when she met Sam, that the two of them would grow up, get married, have kids, and have a life. Then she met Dean, and everything spiraled away. This is a really interesting AU in which Dean doesn't talk, he and Sam were raised by foster parents, and they live together while Sam is at Stanford. The ending is really powerful. It's followed by Second Skin and Silent Water.

Thirty Times Dean Winchester Got Hurt by ifyouweremine  (PG-13). Hurt!Dean anyone? This is one of those short pieces in which every word packs a punch.

Too Much Information by iamstealthyone . (Sam, Dean, and Bobby; PG-13) Summary: Bobby motioned toward the gag in Dean’s mouth. “Is that really necessary, Sam?” 100 words of utter perfection.

The Gift by geminigrl11 . (unrated) Summary: "You're the damndest kid, Sammy." (a little preseries schmoop). Short and sweet; Sam is actually unselfish for once. Pre-series.

The Patchwork Family by not_refined . (mentions of Dean/OFC and Sam/Jess; PG-13) Summary: Very AU. Dean shows up at Stanford with a stolen baby and a heart full of need. And Sam sews them back together with one word: Yes. Wonderfully sweet story. The author may even write a sequel. Especially if you comment and whine that you want one. That's a hint.

Omega by sangaa . (PG-13) Summary: The Winchester's take refuge after John's possession. But maybe the demon is closer than they think. He closes his eyes for a moment, trying to get rid of this helplessness. His brother, laid out on a green table. His father, trapped in a box. And himself, flailing around in space, trying to find true north… Author's note: This places the series in that AU-verse, starting after the events of 'Devil's Trap', but jumping off from just before they get truck-stopped. The focus, as always, is on Sam. Damn! This is powerful stuff. Hurt!Dean is always pure yum, but this ... let's just say that I'll be re-reading this one again and again. There are several more fics in this series, but this one is my favorite.

But All Endings Are Also Beginnings by Gillian Middleton. (G and PG) Summary: Alternate universe story. Dean and Sam reunite after 4 years apart. Sam is burying his past , and Dean is holding his future. A nice long (7 parts) AU in which Dean is a dad. Splits off at the Pilot ep. Dean and Sam are so sweet in this one, and the ending is very satisfying.

Storm Watch by hellesgift . (unrated) Short but awesome. Pre-series. Dean tries to smooth things over between Sam and John to disastrous results. Has a sequel from Sam's POV that's just as awesome, vivid, and chilling - Calm After the Storm.

I always mean to read more gen fic, so I'll have to check out some of these. It can't be all wincest, all the time :)

Though I still think we need some sort of third category that somehow works within deep, non-sexual but highly obsessive love for fandoms like SPN (because Gen rarely seems to get that connection between them), and SGA (because even if John and Rodney aren't sleeping together, they are by far the most important people in each other's lives). -ramble about fic categories is rambly, I know.

Also, have you seen today's crack_impala post? Yay you!

Despite all the wonderfully well written wincests I find myself getting regularly burned out on them. I guess there's only so much angsty sex with one's brother that I can take, LOL. Cause, I mean, I have a brother and YUCK!!!!!!!!!

The crack_impala reccer notified me of the rec, which was a pleasant surprise. I so so love that story that it was a pleasure to record - and listen to again and again. I just love me my dark and twisted fics! :-)

Angsty sex is what I'm here for *g* (or, I get overloaded on teh angst, and then wander over to SGA fic for a few days, which is frequently so cute it makes my face hurt with the smiling, when it's not also angsty - these people write in character ice cube au's, or girlscout cookie au photofic that has ruined Thin Mints for life - now they are "slutty").

Sam/Dean tends to be less angsty/squicky than Heroes Peter/Nathan, at least?

SGA fic IS good for non-angsty sex, I've noticed! astolat is my fav - I've listened to the podfic of "Touch" more than once. :-)

You know, I've never read any Peter/Nathan, but I can DEFINITELY see why people ship them because there's just something about insanely hot brothers who can't keep their hands off each other ...Oh, damn. Now I'm gonna have to go read me some slash and/or wincest!
