vee_fic (Gen, R) Summary: It was just a stupid accident. It doesn't have to be any more complicated than that. Smoking!Dean, homeless and mental. Sam the psychology grad student. They both try to help one another and it's just so painfully, wonderfully well done. I read this one a long time ago and forgot to bookmark it, but it stayed with me and really stands out amongst the millions (okay, slight exaggeration) of stories I've read in the meantime. It's not an easy, happy read. But it's an awesome one.

oselle (Gen, R) Summary: Dean returns from hell and finds himself alive and alone in the stark landscape of an America that has gone terribly wrong. Adrift in hostile territory and pursued by hell's bounty hunters, he sets out on a desperate hunt to find Sam. Apocafic and AU for everything after Season 3. Huge kudos to catsbycat who recc'd this to me as a possible podfic. I'm recording it now, all 70K words of it. It's that good. If you like Hurt!Dean, taut writing, excellent characterization, and atmosphere up the wazoo (I'm so poetic) then don't miss this one. I'm rather surprised it hasn't been recced from here to eternity. It totally deserves to be.
