These two stories deserve a post all their own under the heading OMG THESE FICS ARE THE BEST THINGS EVER!
Clangs by
vee_fic (Gen, R) Summary: It was just a stupid accident. It doesn't have to be any more complicated than that. Smoking!Dean, homeless and mental. Sam the psychology grad student. They both try to help one another and it's just so painfully, wonderfully well done. I read this one a long time ago and forgot to bookmark it, but it stayed with me and really stands out amongst the millions (okay, slight exaggeration) of stories I've read in the meantime. It's not an easy, happy read. But it's an awesome one.
Lazarus Came Forth by
oselle (Gen, R) Summary: Dean returns from hell and finds himself alive and alone in the stark landscape of an America that has gone terribly wrong. Adrift in hostile territory and pursued by hell's bounty hunters, he sets out on a desperate hunt to find Sam. Apocafic and AU for everything after Season 3. Huge kudos to
catsbycat who recc'd this to me as a possible podfic. I'm recording it now, all 70K words of it. It's that good. If you like Hurt!Dean, taut writing, excellent characterization, and atmosphere up the wazoo (I'm so poetic) then don't miss this one. I'm rather surprised it hasn't been recced from here to eternity. It totally deserves to be.

Date: 2009-04-08 10:00 am (UTC)*skips and dances in a skippy, happy way* Thrilled to hear it - and thank you for doing it! No pressure of course, but I can't wait to download it :)
And yes, I agree that Lazarus Came Forth needs more readership. It's just so good.
Thanks for the other rec by the way, I'm always on the lookout.

Date: 2009-04-08 12:15 pm (UTC)I'm so glad you're recording "Lazarus"! I listened to your podfic of "Blind Spot" recently and really enjoyed it--can't wait for this one--

Date: 2009-04-09 01:06 am (UTC)I read Clangs a bit ago, and agree it's amazing. Are you gonna read that one? How about The Lee?
Are you gonna post Lazarus chappies at a time, or are you waiting to post it complete?
Too many questions, huh.

Date: 2009-04-09 01:21 am (UTC)Aww, thanks, sweets! I'm just chronically insecure, I guess. :-)
I'm going to post Lazarus in one fell swoop. I'm working on the last chappy right now. It's 41 pages long, though. Yikes!
I'm not sure about future podfics. To tell you the truth, I'm getting a bit burned out on them. I did recently purchase 2 podficcers on Sweet Charity, though. YAY!!! One is doing a Dark Angel fic and the other a Supernatural/Dark Angel crossover. Can't wait to post about them. *gleefully rubs hands together like Mr. Burns*

Date: 2009-04-09 02:57 am (UTC)BTW, is it hard to learn how to make podfics? I've been thinking of trying, but am not the most technically dexterous person...
(and yeah, I adore "Blind Spot." It's kind of linked with "Lazarus" for me, and not just because of the Dean whumpage...maybe because they are both sustain such powerful, unique voices? Maybe because it's a S3 epic in the same way "Lazarus" is an (AU) S4 epic...)
I wrote up a rec for "Larazus" a little while ago (http://ariadnes-string.livejournal.com/2293.html#cutid1) but didn't post it to the newsletter or anything, mores the pity...

Date: 2009-04-09 04:22 pm (UTC)Regarding making podfics. No, it's really not hard at all. It depends on whether you have a Mac or PC. I do mine on a PC, using the free program Audacity. There's a bit of a learning curve for Audacity, but it's really pretty simple. Here are some tutorials: http://audiofic.jinjurly.com/creating-and-submitting-podfic-recordings And I'm always available if you have any questions.

Date: 2009-04-08 04:01 pm (UTC)Clangs is incredible, too. I love how layered it is and how broken both boys are, in their own ways.
