To me it was worst than hate it: it bored me. Slow, confusing, untidy Everything looked forced to me. I'll give it two episodes to grab my interest, because I used to love this show so much. But I am not holding my breath *sigh*
I got bored too. I didn't even finish watching the episode. I wasn't convinced by the sudden appearance of long lost cousins they didn't know they had - unless I missed something somewhere between 1.01 and 5.22
I'm giving it a couple more episodes before I drop out completely. It would be a shame to have come so far only to leave before the end.
Yeah, I had a lot of problems with it, but probably not enough to make me stop watching. A show that has brought me to tears as often as SPN has has my loyalty, even if I have to watch with much gnashing of teeth and yelling at the screen.
Buffy season 7 bored the crap out of me. But there were a handful of episodes worth watching, and once I made peace with the idea behind the season arc, I was glad I saw it through. Knowing how it ended allowed me that much more enjoyment of all the post-series fic that followed. I guess I'm prepared to feel the same about SPN.
Sad, though. I really do hope the season redeems itself.
You know what, I think what really put all of us off was how different it all was. The characters for starters, the dynamics between them, even the light.
The episode was far from perfect - the supernatural plot was weak at best - and a lot of things were left unsolved, but it is the first episode of a new narrative arc and this is fine in my book. What I really found... idk... overwelming was Dean's grief.
Anyway, I have a lot to say about this episode and I'm too tired right now to do that (I'll post my review, hopefully, tomorrow) but the thing is I watched it three times already and every time I love it a little more.
I'll join in the chorus of "it committed the sin of being boring." I tried to watch a second time and was literally too bored to continue.
I've seen some moderately persuasive fanwank here and on Twitter about how Sam has PTSD or something, but frankly a script that relies on a Twitter postgame to make sense of it is a script that should have been reworked. A lot.
6.01 made me miss SHOW when it was just wonderfully slashy and cheesy.
