Most of you undoubtedly know what podfic is, but in case you don't, chiak made a nifty little vid about it over thisaway. She even credited me! *loves on her* Way cool!
Very nice video indeed. I was impressed with her demeanor, too - did you notice? No Ummm's...nor "yknow's"...completely "clean" delivery in that way. It's so rare any more! I get SO discouraged when even some of my favorite writers - my favorite PEOPLE - get before a camera and suddenly 50% of their speech is meaningless, redundant filler noise.
Anyway, I do have a question. No, I was not familiar with podfic. The question that immediately sprang to my mind was, "Copyright? Is that an issue here?" It's only mentioned obliquely in Chiak's video when she inserts parenthetically something about "with the author's permission."
Now that you mention it, she did have a good demeanor! I'm afraid if I were interviewed I might be quite horrid, myself. It's something to think about ...
Good point about copyright! It's good form for podficcers to ask the author for permission before recording their work. I don't know of any podficcers who don't ask, but I suppose it could happen. Because it's fanfic traditional copyright laws don't apply, I suppose.
