Fic Recs: Gen

twasadarkWell, after a reccing frenzy I had a few months back, I haven't reccd much of anything. Here are a few reads that are well worth your time, though:
nilchance's Shelter 'verse, which currently contains 3 fics: Gimme Shelter, Paint It Black, and Rain Fall Down. Now, I'm not much of one for stories about the boys when they were small, but this series is totally worth making an exception for. The premise for this series is: What if Mike Gunther had called Child Protective Services? It's Gen, AU, and kick ass. Dean at 12 years old is a real wild coyote (not literally!), Sam is a damaged, but adorable 8-year-old and John is a darker, more wounded character than we're used to seeing. The only hesitation I have in reccing this is that it feels like a WIP in that there isn't a final resolution to the series. Hopefully, more stories will be coming soon, though.
Before Dawn bysanyin This is a short, lyrical, intense fic - pure hurt/comfort from John's point of view. Poor, abused Dean. If only he didn't wear his wounds so prettily. The thing that gets a hold of him this time is chillingly awful. Summary: John is almost too late.
