Poll time!

I'm going to try to post this to LJ from DW ... hope I can figure it out.

Anyhow, I'm in the midst of writing a medieval adventure with a gay love subplot. Woo hoo!! I'm having a conundrum over the main character's name. The time period is 700 AD, in Britain, Gaul, Italy, basically the Mediterranean. 700 AD is right smack in the middle of the Dark Ages.

Hmmm. I don't see a poll option? I don't know what I'm doing, apparently, lol. Anyhow, please reply in comments. Which name resonates more with you?

Thanks and history and general babbling

Thanks so much to [livejournal.com profile] yggdrasilian  and [livejournal.com profile] blackbyrdy  for the v-gifts! How kind of you!! *smishes you*

I've been researching for the continuation to my recently posted (and recently whined about) Big Bang story, and let me tell you, history is not for the weak of heart (or stomach). Witness this passage talking about the Arabs besieging Constantinople, ca. 700 ad:

Cut for gross historical tidbits... )

And there are many more titillating tales of tongues being cut out, noses sliced off, powerful hulking eunuchs, and shaggy-bearded barbarian kings. More than enough to get the creative juices flowing!

In ten days I'll be making my fifth annual trek to Comic Con down in San Diego! I'm gearing up for some zombie walking and line standing and Jared and Jensen watching. Woooooooo hoooooooo!

Big Squishy Love!

To all who commented and commiserated and read my story and were generally INCREDIBLY AND COMPLETELY AWESOME during my last post I wanted to say thank you so much! I feel immensely better for having such kind and wonderful friends! Sometimes it seems as though I am just a faceless cog in the wheel of life, chugging along and never really contributing or making a difference in any way, shape, or fashion, so to hear that I'm appreciated and valued is the best possible medicine. So, again, thank you!!

This is relevant to my interests

Someone snagged this off of tumblr so I don't know where it originated from, but it is SO completely my life that I must share it:

YES

I just turned the first draft of my [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang fic in!!!!! Final word count - 34,500. I'm nervous about the title and the summary and, well, the entire thing (thank God for rewriting) but it is DONE.

Now I need to get started on my fic for the [livejournal.com profile] darkangel_bb . Aren't you glad you get to hear me whine about that now? LOL. The minimum word count for that one is only 10k, though, so it should be easier. Now I just need to figure out what to write about!

Comment Hounds

Please go read this rant about commenting and then make it a practice to comment on people's stories, k?  Pretty please?  Not only does it make authors feel good, but it encourages them to write and create and podfic and so on - fandom is so much fun that I want people to continue doing all these things .... don't you?

*hugs flist*

Poetry

So I haven't written poetry in more than twenty years, but for some reason have felt inspired to do so lately.  It's probably because of [livejournal.com profile] calamitycrow 's poetry recs.  I don't even know if what I'm trying to communicate here comes across.  I've never taken any sort of poetry class, and just one literature class - I'm a historian all the way, lol.  Perhaps this is glaringly obvious. Anyhow, feedback on punctuation and word choice and meaning or the lack thereof is so so welcome!  Even and especially the critical kind. :-)

Hmmmmm ...

Just committed myself for the [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo for the 3rd year in a row, and am contemplating writing an [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang during November due to [livejournal.com profile] smilla02 's influence.  It's only 10K rather than 20K, which I find vastly more do-able.  I have no idea what shape my apocalypse might take and whether it would include Castiel in addition to the boys, or whether I would do a crossover with Dark Angel.  My little brain is spinning and spinning thinking about it ...

I can tell that the weather is getting cooler because suddenly one of my kitties is MUCH more affectionate.  She gets cold easily and is only really interested in affection when it comes with human warmth, lol.

Finished Novel!

For those of you new to my journal, or who have somehow missed my flagrant huckstering of the fantasy novel [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules and I have collaborated on, here's your chance to find out about it! Whoopee!!

Since pictures speak louder than words, here's the cover art, drawn by the beauteous and talented [livejournal.com profile] draykonis :

We've been publishing one chapter per week free over at [livejournal.com profile] xcpublishing and our website here. Well, 38 chapters later the novel is FINISHED. *throws confetti* Also, we've just compiled it into one 342 page long file for easier reading. Here are the stats:

Title: The Gauntlet Thrown
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules & [livejournal.com profile] twasadark
Fandom: None - original fiction
Genre: Gen
Rating: PG-13
Words: 162,000
Summary: Brydon's quest was simple. Borrow the fabled Gauntlet of Ven-Kerrick, bring it home to prove his worth, marry the princess, and ascend the throne.

He had planned for the dangerous terrain and Redolian assassins, but he did not count on slavers and werewolves. He did not expect the Gauntlet to be missing, nor to find the Kerrick royal family murdered, and he definitely did not anticipate the distractions of a sultry thief and a rescued slave girl.

Luckily, his worst enemy was there to help him out.

Click here to download the novel as a PDF, .doc, or Open Office document

It's also still available chapter by chapter at the [livejournal.com profile] xcpublishing comm if you'd prefer to read it that way.

PS - Feel free to let your friends know, too.  Oh, and if you want to friend the [livejournal.com profile] xcpublishing  comm that would make us squee with glee.

Happy happy joy joy

One canary baby and two cockatiel babies were born last night! Awwwwwww! Yes, I remember the debacle I just went through with my other bird babies. But birth always makes me smile.

Had a big scare today - my Zune froze. Yes, I nearly had a meltdown. Luckily I got online and found out how to reboot it fairly quickly. *wipes sweat away from brow*

Here's my Jim Beaver pic if anyone's interested ...

And last, but not least, please fill this out and let me know what you really think of my writing. I'm DYING to know! :-)

Half-done ficcies?

So I have a bunch of half-finished fics languishing on my hard drive.  And I can't seem to get in the mood to get any of them finished.  And let's not even talk about my original fic.  Except that I really NEED to talk about it, or better yet, DO something to jumpstart me.  So I joined:

The only problem is that I want to work on my Dark Angel fics and there needs to be three more people who request that fandom before the comm will allow me to participate in the next round.  So ..... wanna help me? Or do YOU want to finish a fic or two that have languished?  If you do, please join [livejournal.com profile] ficfinishing and go HERE and request Dark Angel.  *bats eyelashes pretty-like*

Of course you can go and join to work on your Supernatural ficcies or many other fandoms as well.  :-)

I dun good and WRITING

Okay, first the important news. My cockatiel mama now has THREE EGGS in her nest box!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Aren't you hysterically excited just like me????  What?  You're not??  LOL  In other bird news, I'm now the proud owner of 4 more cockatiels and 2 canaries after attending the local bird show on Sunday.  It's really hard to take pics of birds through their cage, which is why these suck, but here's a couple of piccies of the canaries:

Along these lines, I've decided to set up a writing community to debut January 1, 2009.  The idea is to support myself and others to write EVERY SINGLE DAY, on any sort of project - fanfic, original fic, nonfic, school essays, whatever.  I'm a writer, dammit.  I have to stop letting myself procrastinate my life away.  I've proved to myself that I can write every day despite the fact that I'm afraid it will be crap, blah blah blah.  Anyhow, please consider joining.  [livejournal.com profile] thedailywriter

Bites fingernails ...

I'm somewhat nervous posting this because I usually post about Supernatural or podfic or bizarre cats or elephants doing rather grody things to other elephants, and not about writing.  Deep breath.  Here goes ...
