A New (Old) Supernatural Story!

Many moons ago my writing partner dysonrules and I tried to get jobs writing Supernatural TV scripts by submitted a spec script to various TV people. Did not work, unfortunately! We wrote this episode with a funny case fic and everything. It would be great for someone to read it after all this time.

It's in script format, which is weird at first but you'll get used to it, I promise.

Enjoy!

Wanna Friend Me?

FRIEND STUFF

I've only  friendlocked some of my entries, so no need to friend me if you just want to cruise around my journal.  However, if you DO want to friend me, feel free to.  I'd love it if you'd leave me a comment about how you found me and what common interests we might share since I do read my friends' posts and comment ... :-)

Alive and Well

Well, looks like it's been several years since I wrote a life update here. After everyone pretty much left Livejournal and went to Tumblr (which I can't stand) and Twitter (which makes me feel like I'm shouting into the wind) I now spend most of my time posting silly cat memes and other memes I find funny to Facebook. I've put a lot more effort into my writing, over the past years since I became a full-time freelance writer. I've written both nonfiction and fiction, including more than 30 nonfiction books for kids. My fiction plods along at a snail-like pace, but I'm still at it, and have published six books and some short stories so far. Lately I have been getting more into marketing, which is a good thing for my silly cat book. It seems to be doing best of all my fiction though I'm working on improving that. My website is xuwriter.com for anyone who's interested.

On the personal side, I've had some significant gains and losses. My out-of-state daughter got married and now has four children with another one on the way! Wow! I'm thrilled but I didn't expect her to have so many kids. I don't get out there to visit them as much as I would like but hopefully over the next few years that will change. My mother died suddenly 4 years ago, and my younger brother died of cancer at the end of January this year. I didn't get to say goodbye to my mom, though I knew she loved me and vice versa. I was there at the end for my brother when he took his last breath. I'm certain he waited for me to get there, which seemed appropriate since he always wanted me to take care of him as his big sister. I did the best I could though it involved fretting over him for pretty much my entire life. He had significant mental health issues that kept him from working or having a family of his own, and when I look back on my life, his condition has been my greatest heartbreak. He was cremated and buried in the same plot as my mom, which will also hold the cremated remains of my dad when he goes. I feel good that they will all be together in the end.

I've always been the one that struck out on her own in the family. I'm lucky enough to have my husband with me and have an expanding family, though there's a sense of particular loss at surviving when my closest family members have gone. My extended family is all thousands of miles away so I haven't been close to them to the extent I would have liked. My husband's family is here and I'm lucky to have them even though we only pretty much have his mom and our sister-in-law and kids left. They are a blessing as well.

Fannish wise, I'm still watching Supernatural even though it will be gone in a few episodes. I haven't had the passion for anything else like it and I would be surprised if I ever did again (though I would certainly welcome it). Now I'm ready for people to be fannish about my work:-). Some of my favorite shows are Kingdom, Evil, The Last Kingdom, and Schitt's Creek for, well, shits and giggles.

We're here quarantined but healthy and I hope you are the same. I'm not sure anybody is even going to read this but if so I hope you will say hi.

PS - How could I forget Witcher? I LOVE it!

Dark Angel Recs!

Alec lives on! Here are a couple of Dark Angel recs that I read/listened to lately:

(Fic) Change More Fierce by [profile] corbyinoz; Gen, Rated: M

Remember the police captain from the final two episodes of Dark Angel? [profile] corbyinoz has written a wonderful story about Alec's interaction with him here. Based on [profile] kjsvala's excellent art over here.

Summary: Ramon Clemente receives an unexpected visitor days after the events of 'Freak Nation'. His encounter with Alec will change everything he knew about his family life, his security and the nature of the 'reaks' he chased into Terminal City; but can he save Alec, as Alec saved him?

(Podfic) A Mind That Knows Itself by [personal profile] impertinence; read by [personal profile] exmanhater; Max/Alec, PG-13; Length: 17:17

[personal profile] exmanhater gives her typical sweet, smooth read of this lovely story. Delightful!

Summary: Post-"Berrisford Agenda". Alec's not alright, duh.

Poll time!

I'm going to try to post this to LJ from DW ... hope I can figure it out.

Anyhow, I'm in the midst of writing a medieval adventure with a gay love subplot. Woo hoo!! I'm having a conundrum over the main character's name. The time period is 700 AD, in Britain, Gaul, Italy, basically the Mediterranean. 700 AD is right smack in the middle of the Dark Ages.

Hmmm. I don't see a poll option? I don't know what I'm doing, apparently, lol. Anyhow, please reply in comments. Which name resonates more with you?

Jared!!!!!!!!!

Livejournal's unannounced and unacknowledged outage has me a wee bit irritated, so I'm trying out this Dreamwidth crossposting thing. I'm not sure what to set regarding comments but hopefully I'll figure it out ...

Anyhow, the perfect ending to the Comic Con weekend was the Conversation with Jared Padalecki!!! What can I say about it? The whole thing is undoubtedly available online somewhere and it's definitely worth a watch if you're so inclined. I came away from the experience feeling like Jared is a very kind, considerate, somewhat goofy guy who cares deeply about the people in his life (including Jensen). He seems so genuine, and so grateful to fans and life in general. During the signing afterward I didn't say much because there were 200 people behind me, but I did notice that he made a point of looking every person in the eye. He even winked at me! Awwwww, so sweet.

He reiterated that he's a very loyal person and that he'll be with Supernatural as long as the show has him. Here are a few pics in a slideshow. They look a little odd because they were taken of the video screen.

Supernatural Panel at Comic Con

First, I'd like to go on record as saying that [livejournal.com profile] gembat is a TRULY AWESOME HUMAN BEING, because she finagled a way for me to get 3rd row seats for the Supernatural panel at Comic Con. bnieoainbiofhgiroet;nbieojhnnboi

Click on the YUMMY Jared photo to take a look at my photobucket pics. There aren't too many - 20 or so.

PS - wow, that's huge. Um ... does anyone know how to re-size a photobucket pic? I'm clueless ...Read more... )

*screams*

Now that I'm a grandma I really should be more composed and dignified, I suppose, but screw that!!! I'm going to Comic Con in two days where I will go to the Zombie Walk and watch Cirque du Soleil and see the Supernatural crew and ....

see Jared Padalecki for a "conversation and signing":

*flails around like a mad thing*

Any other flisties making the trip? I'd love to meet up with you if you are - PM me your cell number and we'll connect.

SO EXCITED!

Podfic Rec - J2

One of my favorite things about podfic is the company I get doing boring, mundane tasks like the dishes or driving or painting the house. I've been working on this last task for the past couple of weekends and I've had as my companion the PBR (Professional Bull Riding) 'Verse (J2) by [livejournal.com profile] drvsilla , read by [livejournal.com profile] chemm80 . The verse is long and meaty - 12+ hours! - and such a delight to listen to! I have a THING for cowboys (even got my first kiss from one) and this really delivers when it comes to atmosphere, mindset, aw-shucks-ma'am blushes, and of course sexy times. [livejournal.com profile] chemm80  did a lovely job on the read - it's well-paced, with great inflection and she does an excellent job with the accents.

Thanks and history and general babbling

Thanks so much to [livejournal.com profile] yggdrasilian  and [livejournal.com profile] blackbyrdy  for the v-gifts! How kind of you!! *smishes you*

I've been researching for the continuation to my recently posted (and recently whined about) Big Bang story, and let me tell you, history is not for the weak of heart (or stomach). Witness this passage talking about the Arabs besieging Constantinople, ca. 700 ad:

Cut for gross historical tidbits... )

And there are many more titillating tales of tongues being cut out, noses sliced off, powerful hulking eunuchs, and shaggy-bearded barbarian kings. More than enough to get the creative juices flowing!

In ten days I'll be making my fifth annual trek to Comic Con down in San Diego! I'm gearing up for some zombie walking and line standing and Jared and Jensen watching. Woooooooo hoooooooo!

Pimping another Big Bang!

Oh, Lord. This must be my year for signing up for Big Bangs. I flaked out on the Dark Angel one, although I will probably finish the story nonetheless. But this one is perfect as a continuation of my adventure story started in the [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang . Woo hoo! The minimum word count is 10,000, and there's plenty of time left in the year to write:

More Recs! Supernatural (Dean/Castiel and Gen)

 Vid

I'm partial to short, action-filled vids with catchy songs. This one meets all of those criteria in spades:

Ki-ki-kiss me! by ILoveThesePeople - (Dean/Castiel)

Art

4 Times Sam Walked in on Dean and Cas Having Sex and 1 Time He Didn't by [livejournal.com profile] daggomus_prime  - (Dean/Castiel) This is a short comic strip that is both brilliantly drawn and hilarious. It's also quite NSFW.

Worship by [livejournal.com profile] lolryne  - (Dean/Castiel) Just all-around gorgeous - and quite sweet.

Fic

Bone by [livejournal.com profile] apokteino  - (Dean/Castiel) Not for the squeamish or those wishing for a sweet, fluffy read, this is DARK stuff. Torture and psychological devastation. Such a skillfully written, incredibly powerful piece, though. Incisive and uncompromising - a definite must-read.

Summary: When Dean (raised from hell by some unknown force) and Sam stop the last seal from breaking, heaven decides to bring its own apocalypse. Late in the war, an angel with dark hair and striking blue eyes is captured, and Dean – Dean is his interrogator.

The Future as B-Movie / Bring Out Your Dead by [livejournal.com profile] twoskeletons  and [livejournal.com profile] unoshot  - (Gen) Another dark piece that is bold and bleak and possessed of a sort of frantic desperation that is incredibly compelling; another powerful read.

Summary: In the middle of the zombie apocalypse, the vampires multiply and zero in on Cas. / This future isn't much better than that other one. / Surviving the Monsterpocalypse 101 / Worst road trip ever.

Podfic/Fic Recs - Supernatural and The Eagle

Supernatural

Oh, the angst. The sweet, sweet angst. With bonus h/c and an epic post-apocalyptic storyline? What could be better? A PODFIC of such a story - that could be better! With great delight, I am pleased to rec ....

Thursday's Child by [livejournal.com profile] strangeandcharm , read by [livejournal.com profile] alchemynerd - 12+ hours of hurty goodness! Yes, you read that right - 12+ hours! The story is Dean/Castiel, an AU in which Dean managed to kill Lucifer when he was in Sam's body. I've actually read the story twice before - so enjoyable!  [livejournal.com profile] alchemynerd 's voice is very pleasant. The recording is clear, as is the reader's diction, and her pacing is careful without being plodding.

The Eagle

I actually hadn't heard of The Eagle before my dear [livejournal.com profile] ariadnes_string  posted a lovely little piece of slashy h/c - The Place You Are - some time ago (highly recommended!), but as soon as I saw that it was - 1. historical, 2. Roman, and 3. filled with fine looking men, I was ALL OVER IT. [livejournal.com profile] jaxie12  has done several excellent podfics in this fandom (here). And also, one of my favorite readers produced this enjoyable piece:

Suffer, Spasm, Strain by [livejournal.com profile] onelittlesleep , read by dodificus. dodificus has a lovely accent and unhurried pacing. She doesn't do near enough podfics, I'm afraid! This particular story is so compelling and unusual - and it clocks in at only around 15 minutes.
